New Study Guide for "Artist's Hand" Available -
A Study Guide to compliment the "Artist's Hand" CD has been developed as a leader's resource for youth groups and confirmation classes. Written by Maren Tirabassi, it is packed with study sessions, group activities and discussions, worship liturgy, reproducible lyric sheets, reflections from Bryan, and a brief leader's Bible study - all based on each song on the Artist's Hand recording (13 in all). "Come As U R!" Recording as a Curriculum for Confirmation or Youth Groups -
The Come As U R! study guide was written jointly by Bryan and his good friend Peter Monkres.  It features discussion guides which go along with each song, as well as "active learning exercises" for each song.  The active learning exercises are games and other playful ways to explore the themes of the songs without having to talk a lot.  These exercises are especially helpful in working with youth who may not be developmentally ready to get into "heavy discussions" (i.e. junior high kids--or at least some of them!) "High Frequency" Study Guide Available for CD "words to the Song..."-
This guide was put together by Augsburg Fortress Press.  They took a number of cues from Mark Yaconelli's "Youth Ministry Spirituality Project," which has called youth workers to rediscover the power and fruitfulness of such classic spiritual disciplines as "Lectio Divina," or holy reading of scripture.  This study guide is an attempt to develop "holy hearing" of the songs on the recording, and to create an atmosphere in which the Spirit can speak to youth through the music and lyrics.  According to Maren Tirabassi, the study guide's author, "The central goal is to help youth learn about a biblical teaching, principle, or truth -- albeit in an engaging way.  High Frequency makes use of the music of Christian artists as the central teaching element.  Each song serves as the primary vehicle though which God speaks to form persons in the faith and move them to action in the world." By offering both active learning and contemplative exercises, this resource tries to deepen the educational aspect of study guides by providing opportunity for personal and experiential understanding of the lessons involved.  Click through to view the lyrics and hear mp3 samples of the new CD...

Radical Commitment...

This statement of commitment was found among the papers of a pastor from Zimbabwe after he was martyred.  I first heard it in a sermon given by Gordon Cosby of the Church of the Saviour in Washington, D.C.

"I'm part of the fellowship of the unashamed.  The dye has been cast, I have stepped over the line.  The decision's been made.  I'm a disciple of his, and I won't look back, let up, slow down, back away or be still.  My past is redeemed, my present makes sense, my future is secure.  I'm done and finished with low living, sight walking, small planning, smooth knees, colorless dreams, tamed visions, mundane talking, cheap living and dwarfed goals.  I no longer need preeminence, prosperity, position, promotions, plaudits, or popularity.  I don't have to be right or first or recognized or praised or rewarded.  I live by faith, lean on Christ's presence, lift by prayer, and labor by Holy Spirit power.  My face is set.  My gate is fast, my goal is heaven, my road may be narrow, my way rough, my companions few, but my God is reliable and my mission is clear.  I will not be bought, compromised, detoured, lured away, turned back, deluded, or delayed.  I will not flinch in the face of sacrifice, or hesitate in the presence of the adversary.  I will not negotiate at the table of the enemy, ponder at the pool of popularity, or meander in the maze of mediocrity.  I won't give up, shut up, or let up, until I have stayed up, stored up, prayed up, paid up and preached for the cause of Christ.  I'm a disciple of Jesus.  I must give until I drop, preach until all know, and work until he comes.  And when he does come for his own, he'll have no problem recognizing me.  My colors will be clear."
