Anyone
familiar with my ministry over the past ten years or so has probably
heard me talk about Haiti in one way or another. I first visited Haiti,
the poorest country in the western hemisphere, in 1991 while traveling
with an organization called Ministry of Money. Ministry of Money's focus
is to help Christians (and people on a spiritual journal of any kind)
to try to respond deeply and with integrity to biblical teachings regarding
the use of money and resources. In founder Don McClanen's words; "Just
as you would have a ministry of music, or a ministry of education, a
ministry of money is very As
grace would have it, Don McClanen (Ministry of Money's founding director
who also founded the Fellowship of Christian Athletes over 40 years
ago) was leading the 1991 pilgrimage to Haiti in which I participated.
To make a long story short, Don and I hit it off, and he and
the rest of the Ministry of Money staff eventually invited me to begin
leading singing for Ministry of Money workshops throughout the country.
In 1994 I joined Ministry of Money's staff part-time, and helped
lead an average of 3-4 workshops annually
and 1 or 2 reverse mission pilgrimages per year from 1994 through
2000. While I participated in
pilgrimages to India and Bosnia, I felt led to focus my primary
attention on the country of Haiti.
In July of 2000, I decided to leave this part-time position with
Ministry of Money, but I still have a wonderful relationship with Ministry
of Money's staff and board, and I look forward to participating in workshops
and pilgrimages on a free lance basis from time to time. If you would
